I have a 400 gallon Koi pond. During the mid-summer heat wave my pond was completely green. Within 4 hours of installing this filter the pond was totally clear! The filter is really well built and very easy to maintain. I have tried other filter systems, but this little wonder is by far the best. The installation is very simple. I would highly recommend this filter for smaller Koi/fish ponds. For its ease of use, its quality construction, and ultimately for how well it works to keep the water clear and healthy.

Great Product
I have a 400 gallon pond as well... I installed the unit IN the pond but be prepared because it does float, even when filled. I have a large stone on the top to weigh it down.
TotalPond
Have some leaking problems from the o ring seal on the screw on cover but seems to be slowing down as time goes on. A much better and easier to clean design from my old filter of the same product!

Surface Skimming
Have tried several DIY options and totally gave up. Came across this bargain and took advantage of it. Initially it did not work as expected. Upon reading the manual the error was corrected and has worked great since then. two thumbs up. It works. Critical factor is pump volume. Recommended 1800gph and up is on the dot.

Great Idea, Details Matter
The device is well constructed and easy to assemble. It is not clear, however, that you need at least 12" water depth to use this at all. With some minor modification (i.e. cut the basket from 6" to 4") I was able to used this in a 14" deep water feature. Would have like to know this ahead of time.
works OK as a skimmer. Sometimes is difficult to maintain
I have been using htis skimmer for about 1 1/2 years. It works well, but would prefer something that is even bigger. Cleaning the filter sometimes can be a pain. It is pretty sturdy. No cracks in mine yet. Suggest you get 2 or 3 sets of filters so you can quickly change them out and then rinse out the old one and use again. I also added a steel wire to the basket to make a handle which makes it easier to pick up with my reacher (grabber).
